The best routes of Tenerife to ride on a bike

Into the city or the mountain, professional or beginner, the bike becomes a different means of transport to enjoy around the island.

There are many benefits of this practice: it strengthens the heart, tones muscles, burns calories and, in addition, represents an important economic saving in fuel and car rental, reduces CO2 emissions and is respectful with the environment. Today we bring you some routes to enjoy your holidays on bike.

You set the pace and the distances you want to travel. You can choose one-way, circular, easy, moderate, difficult, very difficult or expert level routes. Tenerife is the perfect destination for bike rides, regardless of whether you are just going for a ride, if you are an amateur or if you are an elite cyclist.

South Zone

Are you staying at GF Gran Costa Adeje? You just have to let yourself go, stop whenever you want to contemplate the landscape, and move on. After the ride, do not worry about anything, leave your bicycle in our bike-parking with total comfort.

Who does not like to ride a bike a few meters from the beach or at the mountain? Starting from any of our GF Hoteles, from the north or the south, several routes begin that will take you on a journey across the coast, from beautiful and paradisiacal beaches to ravines and mountains.

If you are starting in this magnificent sport, we suggest you start with a simple route through ‘Barranco del Infierno’, in Adeje. Do not be afraid of the name! It is the most famous ravine in Tenerife and one of the most pleasant and affordable routes you will find on the island. A return to the Central Massif by mountain bike will take you less than 2 hours and consists of about 7km of circular route, of easy difficulty. It is a Special Nature Reserve with limited access, so it is essential to make a reservation to know the rest of the site, where you can also go hiking.

The most experienced cyclists usually make a difficult route from Adeje, passing through the beach of Torviscas, San Eugenio, Las Americas, Los Cristianos, Siam Mall, Siam Park, Torviscas Alto, Miraverde, Fañabe and finally returning to El Galeón, in Adeje. This is a circular route of about 30km and almost three hours of walking along curves and slopes to rise and down. Do you dare?

North Zone

From the south of the island we move north to Puerto de la Cruz. Tourist enclave par excellence in this part of the island, boasts one of the most entertaining bike rides in Tenerife.

The privileged location of our hotel GF Noelia will serve as a starting point to cross the city from one end to another and to tour the most emblematic sites of the place, and without stopping exercising!

The Puerto de La Cruz has a high level of routes for cycling. Leaving Las Ramblas de Castro you can enjoy a linear ride that runs along the north coast, in an easy route of about 9 km and 2 hours.

Do you prefer the challenges? Arriving at La Caldera will be a defiance for the most experts. This demanding circular route of about 83km begins with an ascent to Pino Alto, until it connects with the Las Palomas Reserve. More slopes from La Vica, in La Matanza de Acentejo; Looping trails to Risco Negro and Las Lagunetas, to join the El Teide highway. We enter the forest of La Esperanza, passing through Tacoronte, towards La Victoria and El Sauzal. Running through La Orotava and after a road of almost 8 hours, we will finally arrive at the spectacular protected area of Las Palomas.
