GF Hotels, a hotel chain belonging to Grupo Fedola, receives the CSR Hotelier Environment award given by the InterMundial Foundation together with Tourism & Law and the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (CEHAT). Victoria López, president of the Canarian corporation, was honoured to collect this award within the framework of the Spanish Hoteliers Congress held in Oviedo.
This award was created with the aim of recognizing the effort made by Spanish hotels in matters of Corporate Social Responsibility and highlights the actions that GF Hotels has developed to minimize the generation of waste, rationalize the use of natural and energy resources, and to fight climate change.
The president of Grupo Fedola highlights the work of the organization to chart a path towards a conscious, safe and regenerative destiny. “14 years ago, we were called crazy for worrying about sustainability and today we are showing that this is the way to go, being responsible with our environment and society,” said López.
Reduction of the ecological footprint
The CSR Hotelier Environmental award recognizes the actions that GF Hotels has developed through its strategic sustainability plan, in order to reduce its carbon footprint. These actions include the gradual replacement of plastic bottles for aluminium ones for both guests and employees, the use of glass or cardboard water bottles, the choice of straws for drinks made from a recyclable compostable material, the acquisition of cutlery made with a material derived from corn, the incorporation of buffet dispensers and the replacement of plastic cups with reusable cups.
In addition, the hotel chain works to reduce water consumption through actions such as the change of water perlizers and the commitment to intelligent irrigation in gardens. The implementation of the laundry is another example of energy efficiency that offers greater control of processes and provides service to the four hotels in the chain in Costa Adeje.
