Juan Carlos De León, director of operations of GF Hotels, participated in the green zone of COP25 to publicize the great commitment to the sustainability of the chain

The 2018-2020 Strategic Sustainability Plan is aligned with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

The hotel group, owned by Grupo Fedola, is the first chain in Europe to obtain the ISO 21401 certification for sustainable accommodation

GF Hotels, belonging to Grupo Fedola, is committed to sustainable growth in which people are the element of change to meet the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Juan Carlos De León, director of operations of the chain, participated as a speaker at the event ‘Towards a model of sustainable tourism in the Canary Islands’, which was organized by the Regional Government Ministry of Ecological Transition and which was developed within the Summit of the Climate (COP25) of Madrid.

Throughout the conference, Juan Carlos De León communicated the importance of “the person as an element of change to move towards sustainability” and presented the objectives of the Strategic Plan for Sustainability 2018 – 2020 of GF Hotels, as well as some of its results. “In the last 9 years we have reduced the impact of our carbon footprint by 2300 tons, which means a reduction of 61% compared to 2009,” he said.

“It’s time to act, since by changing policies we are more sustainable and we also make our companies profitable,” said Juan Carlos De León, who invited the Ministry of Ecological Transition “to work together to lead the change towards sustainability in administrations and companies” .

Likewise, the Casa de Canarias in Madrid hosted activities during the period of the Summit. GF Hotels was one of the participating companies as an example of what is being done on the islands in terms of sustainability.

The chain is the first in Europe and the third in the world to obtain the ISO 21401: 2019 certification for meeting the environmental, social and economic requirements of the sustainability management system for tourist accommodation. This regulation guarantees the involvement of GF Hotels in actions that include responsible, sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism.

GF Hotels is part of a large family business, the Fedola Group, a firm with 66 years of history and with 100% Canarian capital that includes more than 22 brands spread across different productive sectors of the islands.
