If you travel to Tenerife, besides enjoying fabulous beaches, you can also take the opportunity to discover the colonial and typical architecture of Tenerife
Take a pleasant stroll through the northern part of the island, where many of the buildings of cultural interest are situated.
We begin in San Cristobal de La Laguna, named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999, as a unique example of an unwalled colonial city. It is also a university city, where practically all its historic centre is pedestrianized, so it is ideal for walking.
In the centre we find the Cathedral of La Laguna, the most representative elements being: the neoclassical façade, which is inspired by the Cathedral of Pamplona, and the dome which dominates the skyline of the city. Its interior is Neo-Gothic and dates from the beginning of the 20th century.
If we continue walking through the streets of La Laguna, we come to the Casa Lercaro, also called Casa Ponte Fonte. On its facade, you can admire the ornate borders and the impressive carpentry work on its windows and balconies. This building, declared of Cultural Interest, has a beautiful patio with Corinthian columns and a mill. You mustn´t miss it!
And there´s more! Further on our walk through La Laguna we arrive at the Plaza del Adelantado and here we find the Palacio de Nava.
This is a palace that combines Baroque, Neoclassical and Mannerist elements. It is an example of Canarian architecture which was first built in the year 1585.
We change our route to a walk through the beautiful city of La Orotava. Its historic centre was declared a National Historic Artistic Community in 1976 and it is included in the Inventory of Protection of European Cultural Heritage as a Monument Ensemble. La Orotava is also the highest municipality in Spain, with the highest elevation.
Its municipal area reaches from sea level, to 3,718 meters at the peak of Mount Teide (the highest peak in Spain); so, although it is also very pleasant to walk here, you do need to have strong legs, but we assure you it’s worth it! A visit not to be missed is to the Iglesia de la Conception, (Church of the Conception), considered the best expression of Baroque architecture in the Canary Islands. The baroque-style façade stands out for its elaborate stonework, whereas the interior of the building maintains a neoclassic style in all three naves that make up its structure. In addition to this amazing work of art, we recommend that you explore the narrow streets, full of colour and beautiful balconies; as well as sampling some of the typical pastries, which are very famous.
The next place we will visit in the north is Puerto de la Cruz, a well-known holiday resort where our hotel GF Noelia is located. This magical enclave also has a very well preserved historical centre which was declared an Historical Artistic Community in 1985. Here you can visit the Casa de la Aduana, Casa Miranda, La Iglesia de la Peña de Francia and the Marquesa Hotel.
To finish our tour of some of the most beautiful traditional buildings on the island, we go to the Capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Its historic centre is a triangle bordered by the streets of La Noria, Plaza de España and Plaza de Candelaria (all very close one to the other). 
The Iglesia de La Concepción is one of the architectural relics of Santa Cruz. It was built in 1500, and rebuilt 150 years later after being engulfed by fire. Not far away are the Iglesia de San Francisco, the Plaza del Principe de Asturias, the market Nuestra Señora de África and the García Sanabria park. These are just some of the special places which should not be missed on a tour of the city.
