The Canary Islands offers travel assistance insurance to all tourists travelling to the Islands

The Government of the Canary Islands, through Promotur Turismo de Canarias, signs an agreement with the company AXA Seguros to respond to incidents related to COVID-19, among which is the need to extend stays due to quarantine.

The Canary Islands is the first Spanish Autonomous Community in which tourists will have travel assistance coverage with guarantees of medical expenses, health repatriation and extension of stays due to quarantine related to COVID-19, to comply with an obligatory confinement due to a positive result. All this, as long as it is not known before the trip, as set out in the conditions of the insurance policy.

The protection of tourists, both Spanish (including insular) and foreign, through this insurance is effective from this week and will initially be valid for 12 months. Excluded from it, are cases where the circumstances were known before the start of the trip, in accordance with the conditions of the policy.

With the subscription of this policy, the Canary Islands advance even more in their responsibility to consolidate and increase the safety and tranquillity of tourists. In addition, this travel assistance insurance reinforces the commitment to the “new normal” of GF Hoteles, another attraction of the destination, which already stands out for its health security.

Stringent cleaning and disinfection protocols without sacrificing quality standards

  • l Disinfectant gel dispensers provided in all areas.
  • l Disinfection of every guest room (railings, handles, TV remote controls/accessories, minibar, etc.).
  • l Cleaning and disinfection of indoor and outdoor common areas (railings and handrails, lift buttons, etc.).
  • l Washing and drying of linens at temperatures above 60ºC.

Redesign of spaces

  • l Allocation of guest rooms to preserve social distancing.
  • l The minimum distance between guests will be 1.5 metres.
  • l Signposting of the route to be followed through the restaurant, buffets and show cooking.

Adaptations to food safety

  • l Guests will be guided to their assigned table and shown the access rules at the restaurant entrance.
  • l Single-use tablecloths will be placed on the tables and changed after each guest.
  • l Tables, chairs and any items left on the table will be disinfected after each guest.

  • l Continuous staff training regarding the new protocols.

  • l Web app. Online service to make reservations, browse restaurant menus and communicate with hotel staff.
